OCPS Summer Program Fees Increase 25 percent

Parents who plan on having their children participate in Orange County Public Schools Summer Extended Day programs, will face fee increases of as much as 25 percent.

The School Board on Tuesday, agreed to increase fees for children participating in full-day Summer Programs and student holidays by 25 percent. The fee increases take effect on June 1, 2011.

Offered at 56 elementary schools, the Extended Day program provides supervision and educational enrichment to students whose parent or guardian signs up for the service.

OCPS said in a statement, the fee increase is needed for schools to meet the operational expenses of the Extended Day programs.  The statement added, fees for basic services have not changed since August 2003 and will remain the same for the regular school year.
