For the second consecutive year, students and food service managers with national award-winning chefs have been busy creating new recipes as part of the national “Chefs Move to Schools” initiative. Students move from the school cafeteria into the school kitchen under the guidance of chefs and food service managers to learn about nutrition, and create selections with less sugar, salt, and fat.

On Friday, March 16, 2012 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at Evans High School Auditorium, 4949 Silver Star Road, Orlando, Orange County Public Schools (OCPS) students and food service managers from 11 schools, joined by national award-winning chefs, will demonstrate their healthful culinary creations in a high-energy, fast-paced Food Network meets Nickelodeon event.

This year, school teams were assigned to create two new menu items-a meat dish and a vegetarian dish. Anyone attending is invited to sample the “chef inspired, kid approved” new menu items. A booklet of the featured recipes from this year’s “Chefs Move to Schools” initiative will be created for OCPS students to share and prepare at home with their families.

Orlando Magic Ambassador Bo Outlaw will take part in the event along with OCPS Superintendent Ronald Blocker, and leaders from the national culinary association community.
