OCPS Recognized as Leader in School Health, Wellness

Orange County Public Schools has received a Florida Healthy School District Silver Award from the Florida Coordinated School Health Partnership (CSHP) and Florida Action for Healthy Kids. The award is a designation the district will keep for two years from July 2011 through June 2013.

The silver award recognizes Orange County Public Schools as a leader in the state in the area of school health and wellness.

Eight components determine the Coordinate School Health model.  These are:

  • Health Education
  • Physical Education
  • Health Services
  • Nutrition Services
  • Counseling, Psychological, and Social Services
  • Healthy School Environment
  • Health Promotion for Staff
  • Parent and Community Involvement

The district is also recognized for its infrastructure, policy, programs, and practices in the area of health.

Superintendent Ronald Blocker said, “I am so pleased to learn Orange County Public Schools is the recipient of this award. It reflects the tremendous attention we’ve given to providing a healthy and safe environment for our students and employees.”

Orange and Santa Rosa School districts joined 16 others recognized as Florida Healthy School Districts.
