OCPS Provides Summer Meals for Children at No Charge

OCPS provides summer meals for local children at no charge. There is no need to sign up. There are no forms. Just meals at no charge all summer long.

Orange County Public Schools is offering meals at no charge to every student and all children 18 years and younger, thanks to the Summer BreakSpot program. However, schools will not serve meals for the summer feeding program from July 1st to 5th, as well as on Fridays.

Continuing throughout the summer, OCPS will provide breakfast, lunch, and snacks at 230 locations across Orlando and the county. In addition, six libraries – Chickasaw, Fairview Shores, Hiawassee, North Orange, South Creek, and South Trail – will offer meals at no charge.

Every meal served will consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, a main dish, and milk. These meals can be found at schools hosting summer programs, summer camps, and various churches.

School officials said the program ensures all children can eat healthy food during the summer when they cannot eat at school.

“Summer can be a difficult time for a lot of kids. Many do not have access to nutritional meals during the summer,” said Mark Watson, Sr. Director, OCPS FNS. “This is where OCPS Food and Nutrition Services comes in to provide a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. We are proud to say every menu item is taste-tested by students for students.”

The USDA through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides funding for the summer meals program annually. To find nutritional site locations and serving times, call 211 or check the OCPS website.
