OCPS Holds Magnet Fair November 6

 

OCPS2ColorOrange County Public Schools is calling all students interested in specialized programs known as magnets. The district will host a Magnet Fair for parents and students to learn more about what magnet programs are offered in elementary, middle and high schools. Magnet programs encourage academic excellence in basic areas of study and often pave a road into highly specialized programs in post-secondary schools and colleges.

The Magnet Fair is a community open house allowing parents and students to speak with coordinators. It will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, from 5:30 – 8 p.m. at Edgewater High School 3100 Edgewater Drive, Orlando, Florida 32804. Some of the curriculum areas include:

 

  • Aviation and Aerospace
  • Visual & Performing Arts
  • Foreign Language
  • Medical Arts
  • Dual Language
  • International Studies
  • Digital Technology
  • Criminal Justice, Law & Finance
  • Veterinary Animal Sciences
  • Science
  • Laser Photonics
  • Intl. Baccalaureate MYP/DP
  • Global Technologies
  • Advanced Engineering
  • Digital Media & Gaming
  • Medical Careers
  • Hospitality Management

Students who currently reside in Orange County and who are entering a grade from kindergarten through 10th in the 2015-16 school year may apply for a magnet program seat. Students applying for kindergarten programs must be 5 years old prior to Sept. 1.

Students must apply for placement in the magnet program at www.schoolchoice.ocps.net. If there are more applicants than the number of seats available in a specific program, students are selected through a random lottery.
