Technology can turn a disinterested student into a student engaged in life-long learning. Principal Sharyn Gabriel of Ocoee Middle School knows that, and was so honored for her efforts at the 2011 Florida Educational Technology Conference held in Orlando this week.
Gabriel is the 2011 Innovative Principal of the Year. In her school, you’ll find iPod Touches, iPads, iMacs, MacBooks, and more, used to their full extent in educating children. Her teachers are provided many opportunities for professional growth in the latest use of technology. Students routinely use Skype to learn about the rest of the world. Struggling readers use innovative computer systems to make words come alive.
The Florida Council of Instructional Technology Leaders says Gabriel has demonstrated that successful technology programs further student achievement. The organization of education supervisors selects one outstanding leader annually.
