What if I were to tell you that your next door neighbor was robbed of everything he owns and he knew exactly who did it. Now what if I were to tell you that the neighbor reported that robbery and the police knew exactly who robbed him but did absolutely nothing about it.
Picture that neighbor telling his city council members, mayor, governor, state representatives, Congressmen and women, and even the President. Still, nothing happens. The neighbor goes on TV and tells everyone who robbed him, how they did it, and who needs to pay for what they did.
What would you say about our nation’s law enforcement if I said that nobody was ever brought to justice for what happened to your neighbor?
Well imagine that neighbor is you and picture the culprits as corporate America. Imagine corporations being partly responsible for over 24 million Americans without employment and a growing level of anger because of the actions of those corporations. Now how do you feel?
Welcome to Occupy Orlando, a growing faction of the “99” percent of Americans who feel that their voices are being drowned out by corporate greed.
Occupy Orlando is an organic movement of American citizens fed up with corporate greed, plutocracy and oligarchy, and the growing connection between wealth and law.
The small but growing group held an organizational meeting tonight in front of the Orlando Regional History Center where they came to organize, discuss action, and grow the movement.
On Saturday October 15th Occupy Orlando will have a “Tour of Shame” at 8:00 a.m., in front of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce. Here supporters of the movement will march and voice their disdain for corporate greed and as the group’s flyer says, it seeks the “end of financial influence over our government, media and privacy.”
Arianna, a member of the growing occupy movement, attended tonight’s meeting because she wants to see change in America.
“We want to restore brotherhood and equality in the U.S. Everybody here believes that there needs to be a separation of corporations and law,” said Arianna. She continued by stating that corporations should not fund American laws.
In reference to Arianna’s angst over the amount of money being fed into the American political system by corporations this past year, the United States Supreme Court recently handed down a landmark decision in the case of Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. This decision basically decreed that corporations have no spending limit in candidate elections. Another reason why so many people are joining the Occupy movement.
But not everyone is behind the Occupy movement. Republican Presidential candidate Herman Cain said that the recent Occupy Wall Street and subsequent protests around the country were created to aid President Obama and that the jobless should blame themselves for their failures.
Alex, a Florida resident, disagrees with Cain’s stance. “The specific cause is to bring attention to the egregious imbalance of power,” she said. “The purpose of this meeting is to hash out the entire groups’ ideas, validate them, and try to bring all of those ideas together.”
If anything this movement represents everything that is right with America, as angry citizens are voicing their opinions on what they see wrong with America and what needs to change to fix it.

This is the best thing that has happened in years. All of us have gotten sick and tired of yelling at the TV (or our computers.) Those who mainly only phone/text etc. had to be amazed at -human in person interaction. I am writing a book so I would welcome anyone’s contribution. called Occupy Wallstreet through the eyes of Occupy Orlando. You can send me a message through the occupyorlando.org website for amanda more media group. Thanks! (I especially do want Jason Henry to be a contributor with such crystal clear writing)
The lede says it all — we’re finally taking it personally! 🙂
