Just before 9:00 a.m., on February 15th, the Orange County Fire Communications Center received multiple calls advising a vehicle crossed over State Road 417 at Lee Vista and crashed into a retention pond.
As soon as Orange County Fire Units arrived on scene, firefighters immediately entered the frigid water. Using surface water rescue gear, they made repeated attempts to locate the vehicle and its occupants. The deep and murky water conditions hindered the rescue and the dive team from the City of Orlando Fire Department was requested to assist.
Dive Team personnel located and removed one (1) occupant from the submerged vehicle. The patient was transported to Florida Hospital East as Orange County Fire Rescue Paramedics performed advanced life support.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office Dive Recovery Team responded to recover the vehicle and to ensure there were no other victims.
The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash.
