OBT Hit an Run Driver Arrested

A 17-year-old driver in an Orange County hit and run accident was taken into custody on Saturday evening. The accident left a 17-year-old pedestrian with critical injuries, troopers said.

Kenneth Gonzales, 17, of Orlando, was arrested after an alert Orange County Deputy conducted a traffic stop at Rose Avenue and Beggs Road, on the 2001 Pontiac he was driving, because of its heavy windshield damage.

Troopers said that Gonzales was heading southbound on OBT on the inside lane, when he struck Michelle Moore, 17, as she attempted to cross the road near Sprint Boulevard around 7:32 pm, on Saturday night. Another pedestrian who was with Moore as they crossed the road, told troopers, initially Gonzalez slowed down, but then fled the scene.

Moore was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with critical injuries.

Gonzales was arrested by troopers for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious injuries. He was traveling with two passengers, Giselle Gonzales, 39, and Jose Jiminez-De Aquino, 38, all from Orlando.  Neither Gonzales or his passengers sustained injuries as a result of the crash.
