President Barack Obama will travel to Jacksonville Thursday, to deliver a speech focusing on the economy, the White House announced today.

Obama’s visit to the Port Authority in Jacksonville will come a day after he returns to Knox College in Illinois, where he will kick off a series of speeches that will lay out his vision for rebuilding an economy that puts the middle class front and center.  The president is expected to talk about issues such as job security, a good education, home ownership, affordable health care when you get sick, and the chance to save for a secure, dignified retirement.

According to the White House, Mr. Obama will also include new ideas and themes that he has discussed before.  The speeches will also outline steps Congress can take, measures the private sector can undertake and steps he’ll take on his own to benefit the larger population.

Obama’s trip to Florida comes against the backdrop of ongoing marches and protests following the George Zimmerman not-guilty verdict in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teen.  Many share the view that Martin’s murder resulted from Zimmerman’s racial profiling of the teen.
