Obama pushes new Afghan Strategy at NATO, 300 protesters arrested

Barack Obama has met his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy ahead of NATO’s 60th anniversary summit, at which the US president will drum up support for his new Afghan war strategy.

Mr Obama and wife Michelle were welcomed to the Rohan Palace by Mr Sarkozy and his wife, model and singer Carla Bruni.  The leaders shook hands with wellwishers on the red carpet before inspecting an honour guard and standing to attention to the national anthems.

Demonstrators have vowed to disrupt the two-day meeting and police fear violence earlier in the week in London may have encouraged them even more.
