Nearly 20 workers at the New York Police Department have been disciplined after posting racist and derogatory comments on a Facebook page, following the 2011 West Indian American Day Parade, the New York Times reported.
The comments referred to “savages” and “animals” and one poster contained, “Let them kill each other.” The Facebook page was titled “No more West Indian Day Detail,” and received 150 comments, many from police officers, the Times also reported.
The annual Labor Day Parade, a long-standing tradition, is heavily policed. In years’ past, the event has been known to be marred by violence.
