The Garden Theatre is pleased to present TheatreWorks Florida’s production of Nunsense showing September 13 – October 6, 2013, a musical in which five sassy nuns hilariously attempt to organize a variety show. Nunsense kicks off the Garden Theatre’s 2013-2014 Live Season and is sponsored by Pacific Global Investment Management Company, and also sponsored by Insight Credit Union. The 2013-2014 Season is presented by CenturyLink.
The Little Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook has accidentally poisoned the other residents in their convent. In dire need of funds for the burials, the sisters look to produce a variety show in a school auditorium. Despite their vows of humility, it is apparent that the nuns each have an inner stage diva dying to break free. Featuring star turns, tap and ballet dancing, and plenty of surprises, the quirky comedy Nunsense has become an international phenomenon.
Nunsense is produced and directed by Scott A. Cook, the artistic producer of TheatreWorks Florida. Cook has developed show designs and concepts for companies such as Universal Studios Florida and the Walt Disney World Company, and won numerous producers’ honors including the Pierrots Award, Best Musical for Cats at Theatre Winter Haven in 2006 and 10 awards including Best of Fest at the 2012 Orlando International Fringe Festival (Little Shop of Horrors). Last season, Cook brought Elle Woods to life with the Garden Theatre’s season opener, Legally Blonde: The Musical (Central Florida Regional Premiere).
The Garden Theatre chose this show as the season opener because it’s an outrageously fun, good old-fashioned musical comedy. The antics of the strong five-woman cast are sure to pull the audience in to the story, allowing them to de-stress from everyday life. It’s outrageous, and shall we say, habit-forming!
TheatreWorks Florida is proud to announce the outstanding cast of Nunsense:
- Mother Superior – Janine Papin
- Sister Mary Hubert – Desiree Perez
- Sister Mary Amnesia – Erin Farrell
- Sister Robert Anne – Jennifer Roman
- Sister Mary Leo – Lyndsey Wilkerson
Those who have previously appeared on the Garden Theatre stage include Desiree Perez (Little Shop of Horrors), Jennifer Roman (Legally Blonde: The Musical, Little Shop of Horrors), and Lyndsey Wilkerson (The Music Man, Legally Blonde: The Musical, The Wizard of Oz).
The closing weekend will take place during MusicFest on October 4 – 6, a free outdoor festival of music throughout historic downtown Winter Garden.
