Noel: FUMCO Annual Christmas Concert

ChristmasConcertfinalNoël Rings through the Night!

The true spirit of the season will resound through the hall on Sunday, December 21, at 7 p.m. when First United Methodist Church of Orlando presents Noël, a musical celebration of Christmas that offers a fresh and inspiring look at this heartwarming time of year. From the prologue of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Hodie to Barlow Bradford’s “Pat-a-pan,” cries of “noël” will announce the arrival of the Infant Holy in this concert designed to delight the entire family.

Produced and directed by Tony Chunn, director of Music and Worship Arts for the church, the concert will feature the Christmas Concert Choir performing new, moving works, as well as bringing a festive flair to favorite seasonal carols. The musical journey takes the audience from the United States to France and to England. From Francis Poulenc’s awe-inspiring “O Magnum Mysterium” to Andre Thomas’ energetic “Here’s a Pretty Little Baby” to Alan Silvestri’s fun and vibrant “Spirit of the Season,” the music will stir in the hearts of children of all ages.

Handbell choirs, children’s choirs and orchestra will join in the celebration, creating harmonious, joyful sounds. Dramatic vignettes will offer a humorous view of those heavenly beings known as angels and give the audience an inside look as the angels make snow and announce the news of the day. All choirs will combine for the grand finale, performing Mack Wilberg’s “Angels From the Realms of Glory.”

The concert at 142 E. Jackson Street, Orlando, is free and open to the public. Free parking available downtown. Child care provided with advanced reservation. For more information about this event, contact Chunn at [email protected] or in the church office weekdays at 407-849-6080.
