Nine outstanding African American seniors from Orange County Public Schools have been named 2013 National Achievement Scholarship winners, according to a news release from OCPS. Each student will receive $2,500. They are:

The students are among 700 African American high school seniors nationwide, who have won this scholarship through the National Achievement Scholarship Program. The program is financed by grants from 29 corporate organizations and professional associations and by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
Since 1964, the National Achievement Scholarship Program has recognized and awarded academically-promising black students nationwide. The scholarship selection process begins with student participation in a preliminary SAT/National Merit scholarship qualifying test. From test scores, semifinalists and finalists are determined.
