Nicole George, vice president of membership, rhythm and soul at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and a “lawyer by trade and an entertainment lawyer by choice”, as she puts it, was recently interviewed by Honey Magazine.

In this wide-ranging interview, George discusses what an average work day is like, what inspired her to become an entertainment lawyer and the philosophy by which she lives, among other issues.

George said that she was inspired to become an entertainment lawyer as she was exposed to music while growing up.

“My mom was a music lover so I was listening to Smokey Robinson, Diana Ross, The Supremes, Four Tops…the whole Motown sound,” George said. “Music was always playing in my house. My mom is also a songwriter as well so I was just always exposed to music and then I ended up going to law school. Because of my love for law and my love of music, it just all came together. I wanted to pursue a career where I was giving back but where I was also having a good time.”

She told Honey Magazine that the best advice has come from her mom.

“The best advice anyone ever gave me came from my mom,” George said. “She always said to keep God first, stay humble, and to give back.  So those are the things that I live by.”
