This year Orange County Public Schools has 13 high schools listed among the best in the nation, according to Newsweek magazine’s annual rankings. Winter Park, Olympia, and University high schools were ranked in the top 15 percent of all U.S. high schools scored.
The 2010 list includes one more Orange County high school than last year. Wekiva High School was ranked 870th out of the1,622 schools, in their first year of eligibility.
Each year the magazine creates a Challenge Index which takes the total number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, or Cambridge (AICE) tests given at a school, divided by the number of graduating seniors. Only six percent of the schools in the nation make the prestigious Newsweek list.
