New Traffic Signal at Conway & Simmons in Orlando

The Florida Department of Transportation has installed a new traffic signal at Conway Road (State Road 15) & Simmons Road in Orlando.

The signal is currently operating in yellow flash mode and is expected to become fully operational on or around May 6th. The yellow flash mode is a temporary alert to help drivers notice and adjust to the new signal before it is fully activated with red, yellow, and green lights.

Once activated, the traffic signal is intended to enhance safety by managing turn movements at the intersection and reducing the likelihood of left-turn and angle crashes, according to FDOT.

It also provides a location for pedestrians and bicyclists to safely cross Conway Road and may help ease congestion at the nearby Lake Conway Woods and Kroger Street intersection by creating additional gaps in northbound traffic.

While the signal is in yellow flash mode, motorists approaching the intersection should stay alert and proceed with caution. Drivers should yield to any pedestrians, bicyclists, or vehicles already in the intersection and ensure it is clear before continuing.

Originally, FDOT had proposed constructing a bi-directional median. The proposal was changed after hearing concerns from the community during a public hearing in June 2021, and the current plan is to install a new traffic signal at Conway & Simmons intersection.
