Seminole County Government announced that Darren Gray has been named as its next County Manager.
Mr. Gray has more than 25 years of government experience, formerly serving as Lake County’s top executive, Clermont’s City Manager, and in Deputy Administrator roles in Orange and Osceola Counties. He has managed every aspect of government operations, including budget and finance, human resources, planning and development, communications, public policy, transportation, and recreation.
“Darren is the right Chief Executive for Seminole County,” said Board Chairman Amy Lockhart. “He is a transformational leader who left a lasting impression on the Board with his vision, intellect, and professionalism. We are confident that Darren’s seasoned leadership and extensive government experience will lead to meaningful progress for our citizens.”
Most recently, Gray served as Deputy County Manager for Osceola County Government, where he was an integral part of the NeoCity Team and led several successful initiatives, including the Penny Surtax Renewal and affordable housing and sustainability programs. As Deputy County Administrator for Orange County, Gray oversaw a $5.3 billion budget and supervised more than 1,500 employees. During his time at the City of Clermont, he was recognized as Lake County Leader of the Year and led several successful efforts, including creation of a $6.3 million arts and recreation center, the $10.2 million Victory Pointe stormwater facility and urban park, and an ISO Class 1 Rated Fire Department.
Gray holds a Master’s degree and Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of Central Florida. He is a Navy Veteran and was raised in Central Florida.
Pending contract completion, Gray’s employment with Seminole County will commence no later than March 1, 2023.
