The Salvation Army in Ocala announced new leaders, Majors Phillip and Lynn Irish. They assumed their position on June 26, 2022 and have quickly settled into their new surroundings and said they are looking forward to getting to know the community and moving forward the ministry of The Salvation Army.
Salvation Army Officers are periodically transferred to different locations, typically every 3-5 years. The Irish’s are enthusiastic and dynamic leaders and come to Ocala from Clay County, Florida, where for the last 4 years they were responsible for the programs and services of the Clay County Salvation Army.
Majors Phillip and Lynn Irish have been married for 33 years. They were Commissioned (ordained) as Salvation Army Officers in 2002 and have served in Nashville, TN, Hopkinsville, KY, Mobile, AL, Orlando, Florida, Citrus County, Florida, and Clay County, Florida. They have four children and are expecting their first grandchild in September. They both take turns preaching on Sunday mornings and love to teach Bible Studies.
“We are excited to see what the Lord is going to do here in Ocala,” said Major Lynn Irish. “We look forward to meeting the needs of this community and ‘Doing The Most Good’ alongside the staff, volunteers and supporters of The Salvation Army.”
The couple is responsible for all church programs and social services at The Salvation Army including the Center of Hope, Family Store, Corrections Dept., Evangeline Booth Garden Apartments, and Emergency Disaster Services and Emotional Spiritual Care.
“Many people don’t realize that The Salvation Army is a church, but we would like to change that,” said Major Phillip Irish. “We invite everyone to join us for Worship each Sunday at 10:45am, at The Salvation Army, located at 2901 NE 14th Street Ocala, Florida, 34470, here in Ocala.
