MD Anderson – Orlando is now offering an advanced form of prostate cancer radiation treatment on the campus of Dr. P. Phillips Hospital. The brachytherapy seed inplant service, performed by MD Anderson – Orlando radiation oncologists, provides additional treatment options to prostate cancer patients in southwest Orlando.
Brachytherapy is a form of radiation therapy in which radioactive sources, or “seeds”, are permanently inserted into the prostate. It is a convenient, outpatient surgical procedure and less invasive than alternative treatment options including radical prostatectomy. Dr. Akash Nanda, MD, PhD, Director of Genitourinary Radiation Oncology at MD Anderson – Orlando, will be offering this service at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.
“Providing radiation oncology services at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital represents our continued commitment to meet the needs of cancer patients all around Central Florida,” said Clarence Brown, MD, President and CEO of MD Anderson – Orlando. “Working in tandem with our hematology / oncology program at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital, MD Anderson – Orlando continues to grow its services in southwest Orlando and provide our multi-disciplinary treatment approach to fighting cancer.”
MD Anderson – Orlando began providing cancer services at Dr. P. Phillips Hospital in the fall of 2010. Drs. Larisa Greenberg and Sreeram Maddipatla from MD Anderson – Orlando’s Hematology/Oncology Team currently see patients in the Physician Medical Office Building adjacent to Dr. P. Phillips Hospital.
