Florida’s two U.S. senators, Democrat Bill Nelson and Republican Marco Rubio, plan to sit together at tonight’s State of the Union address.
“I think having Florida’s two U.S. senators attending the State of the Union together sends a good signal about bipartisanship and civility,” said Nelson spokesman Dan McLaughlin. “Regardless of party affiliation, the state’s senators have a longstanding tradition of working together. And Sen. Nelson’s looking forward to continuing that tradition with Sen. Rubio.”
Rubio, who was elected in November, said there are a number of issues he’d like to hear President Obama address, but that runaway spending is the most important issue facing the ountry.
“There are others: government interference in the marketplace, the ObamaCare bill, which the President has supported that’s creating uncertainty in the marketplace, government regulation that’s getting in the way of job creators,” Rubio said in a taped announcement. “All these things are serious problems, but none is more serious than the spending problem that Washington, D.C., has. And until Washington shows that it is serious about tackling its spending issues, it’s not going to be able to grow our economy the way all of us need it to.”
