Neil Armstrong, the first man to walk on the moon has died, a family statement said Saturday. Armstrong was 82.
Armstrong, who was a quiet self-described nerdy engineer, became a global hero when he made “one giant leap for mankind” after walking on the moon during the 1969 Apollo 11 mission.
In a live boradcast after setting foot on the moon Armstrong said:
“That’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”
His family didn’t say when or where Amstrong died, but released the following statement:
“We are heartbroken to share the news that Neil Armstrong has passed away following complications resulting form cardiovascular procedures.”
