The 2009 National Basketball Association (NBA) Championship Finals have been a galvanizing force in bringing our community together behind our hometown heroes, the Orlando Magic. Hosting the high profile 2009 NBA Finals is an exciting opportunity to showcase Downtown Orlando and its many assets. More importantly, the economic spin-off from the games such as increased hotel room bookings, additional retail sales, and increased sales at local restaurants help to sustain our economy.
To this end, on Monday, June 8, 2009, the Orlando City Council approved a one-hour extension of alcoholic beverage of alcohol sales during 2009 NBA Finals home games, June 9th and June 11th only.
The 2009 NBA Championship Finals one-hour extension of alcoholic beverage sales is from 2:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. for the home games of June 9 and 11, 2009. This means that alcohol can be sold until 3:00 a.m. (instead of 2:00 a.m.) and that closing of properly licensed establishments (within the City’s corporate limits) will be 4:00 a.m. (instead of 3:00 a.m.). Existing establishments utilizing on-premises security such as off-duty police, private services etc., shall be required to maintain such security throughout the temporary extended hours of operation.
Patrons are encouraged to drink responsibly.
