Nation’s Mayors Converge on Orlando for Annual Meeting

Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will host the nation’s mayors when they gather in the presidential campaign swing state of Florida Wednesday.

Led by Conference President Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, hundreds of mayors from across the county will gather for the four-day United States Conference of Mayors 80th Annual Meeting, which is expected to focus on the economy, job creation, transportation and infrastructure, crime and violence reduction, among other topics.

United States Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to address the bipartisan group Friday morning, June 15th.

Other noted speakers include: HUD Secretary Donovan, Education Secretary Duncan, Congressman Chaka Fattah (PA), and Former Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

On Saturday, June 16, Philadelphia, PA Mayor Michael Nutter will be inaugurated as the new President of The Conference for the June 2012 – June 2013 term.

Mayors will also win awards and recognition for innovative practices to make cities more livable and sustainable, as well as for record levels of aluminum can recycling.
