One of Universal Studios Orlando’s iconic rides is rumored to be due for a bit of a makeover. The indoor roller coaster Revenge of the Mummy is “in line” to benefit from the major upgrades being undertaken by Universal and Comcast.
In addition to the new Transformers ride being built right now, plans have leaked that show Universal is serious about making upgrades throughout the entire theme park, big and small. It is widely expected that the queue and street front for the Mummy will be getting a facelift.
There is a lot of opportunity to bring a new street façade to the attraction, including removing the web of rope lines that weave guests into a museum front and better theming of the area. This would also seem to fit with the business model being implemented in other “lands” at Universal Orlando.
Already visible changes to the Mummy attraction include one of the large screens within the ride that features the Mummy warning riders as they navigate through an Egypt-themed tomb. Some permits filed publicly even hint that management may be upgrading more screen technology within the ride, right before riders blast off on the thrill ride.
Some speculate this might be testing what new technology to integrate into the widely expected Harry Potter expansion, which is also under construction in the same park.
