A 41-year-old Orlando motorcyclist riding a Suzuki Mitsubishi was killed Sunday morning on State Road 50, when a vehicle struck him from behind, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The unnamed driver heading westbound on his 1999 Suzuki in the center lane was stopped for the red traffic signal near Remington Road, when a 2012 Honda SUV, driven by Shawn Yerich, 18, of Clermont hit the motorcycle from behind, FHP said. Troopers said, Yerich failed to see that the motorcyclist had not begun to accelerate, after the light changed to green.
The collision caused the motorcycle to slide across the intersection, throwing the driver from the bike, which came to rest in the center median of SR 50, just west of the intersection.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the spot.
Neither Yerich, nor his passenger, 18-year-old Christina Carattini, of Monteverde, was injured in the crash, which occurred just after mid-night on Sunday.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending, troopers said.
What a senseless tragedy! That kid should be sent to jail. Too many lives lost b/c people don’t pay attention!! I’m not afraid to say make an example out of him!!!
I totally agree. Teens are so irresponsible. I was on on my way home and I saw the victim covered on the roadside. So disturbing.
Sad. I’ll miss you, MB.
That Was My Dad I miss him so much
RIP Mike, you will be missed so much. Prayers go out to your kids and family.
That’s my friends dad 🙁
I hope you are looking over us Mike, and I hope that justice is brought upon the person that shortened your time on this earth. I cannot explain how much we miss you. My thoughts are with your daughters and wife.
People are so stupid to be judging a person by their age. Of course when you think of an 18 year old driver that was in an accident, you think of recklessness, partying, driving while under the influence, texting while driving, etc.. However, none of those actions were the reasons behind the accident. Knowing personally who Shawn is, he isn’t that kind of person. Accidents happen, all the time. The news reports and the FHP St. Kim Montes don’t have their story right, which causes you people to perceive this kid as a reckless teenager behind the wheel. My condolences to the family, but don’t think that Shawn and his passengers weren’t also victims in this tragic accident. He did not see the cyclist period. I love Shawn and he’s a good friend of mine who was just trying to go home after doing a favor for his friend. so don’t judge people and make ur assumptions on what this kid should get if you don’t know any of the details of the accident. Once again, my condolences to the family. Also, Shawn if you’re reading this, I love you and you have my support, don’t let people get you down because of their ignorance. Accidents happen like this all the time, and it wasn’t your fault. You’re not in jail for a reason kiddo, good innocent people don’t go to jail. but they do get put in lousy situations and hurt. Once again, I love you.
I total agree
I’m not judging. I had read two differing reports of what happened that night, and I wonder what the facts were. FHP will not release reports unless it’s to family only.
I hope everyone is doing their best to get past this.
Aura, I hope you get to post updates if you can.
DP
I don’t believe anyone is assuming the driver was drunk or under the influence or any of that but, he was careless. Careles for not being aware of his surroundings and what is in front of him. Accidents happen, you’re right but, they shouldn’t be happening all the time like you say. Accidents happen because you are not aware of what is going on around you. Driving is something people take as a right and not a privilege. Seems like that’s what you and your friends believe in because of your maturity. I’m not 10 years older than you, I happen to only be 2 years older but, I know and am AWARE of how serious the matter is. Aura, I hope you take this matter a bit more serious. I understand you love your friend but, it’s not right for him to just get a slap on the back and a “hey, it’s ok. It was just a mistake, get on with your life” lecture.
LOL Aura was Shawn Yerich the whole time lol
