Mother Trapped Under Car, After Toddler Throws Vehicle in Reverse


A woman is in critical condition, after her 4-year-old son placed the car in reverse, leaving her trapped underneath the vehicle, Orlando police said.

Amara Khan, 33, was standing behind her 1996 Nissan Maxima in a parking lot on International Drive, when the toddler moved the vehicle’s transmission out of park causing the vehicle to travel in reverse. Police said, at some point, Amara became entrapped underneath the vehicle.

Witnesses said they observed the vehicle stopped in the travel lane of the parking lot. One witness told police they heard Amara call for help from underneath the vehicle.

The Orlando Fire Department, responding to the scene, removed Amara from under the vehicle. She was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Medical Center in critical condition.

Police said, another child, a three-year-old girl was in the vehicle, but she was secured in a child’s car seat.

The accident occurred just before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
