A mother of three young children, who left them unattended at home for several hours, was arrested on Tuesday, Sanford police said.
Latoya F. Rolle, of the 2700 block of Ridgewood Avenue in Sanford, was taken into custody yesterday and booked into the Seminole County Jail.
Just before 1:00 p.m., on Tuesday, police went to Rolle’s apartment after receiving a call and found her three children, ages 9, 6 and 18 months, home alone and unsupervised. The oldest child advised investigators that they are always left at home alone, without parental supervision.
Neighbors confirmed that the kids are left unsupervised, according to Rolle’s arrest report. Most neighbors didn’t want to provide their information because “Rolle has a bad temper and she would retaliate against them.” The arrest report also noted that the apartment was dirty and there was limited food.
Rolle returned just before 3:00 p.m. claiming she had telephoned a neighbor to ask him to look at the kids. She was unable to show police that she had placed the call on her cell phone. She also admitted to leaving the children at home unattended.
Rolle was charged with child neglect and booked into the Seminole County Jail.
