Morehouse College Rejects Pastor for Obama

A well-known pastor was disinvited from speaking at Morehouse College’s baccalaureate service this week after he criticized President Obama, who will deliver the commencement address at the school later this month.

The Rev. Kevin Johnson, a Morehouse alumnus and the senior pastor of Bright Hope Baptist Church in North Philadelphia, Pa., in an opinion piece in the Philadelphia Tribune accused Mr. Obama of neglecting the black community in his cabinet appointments and larger political agenda, georgiatipsheet.com reported.

Johnson said, Morehouse President John Silvanus Wilson, Jr. phoned a day after the article ran, to express reservations about his “untimely” comments regarding President Obama, georgiatripsheet.com also reported.

Johnson was later disinvited to the service and replaced by three alternate speakers.

Wilson denied withdrawing Johnson’s invitation, but said the format for the service had been changed and it was Johnson who declined to participate.

Johnson issued a statement saying, he is prepared to speak at the event, if Morehouse honors its initial commitment, newpittsburghcourieronline.com reported.
