Venezuela’s Stefania Fernandez was crowned winner of the 2009 Miss Universe Pageant from a field of young women from 83 countries.
Miss Dominican Republic, Ada Aimee de la Cruz, was named first runner up, with Miss Korsovo and Miss Australia, claiming the second runner up and third runner up positions, respectively.
Ms. Fernandez was crowned by outgoing 2008 Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza, also from Venezuela. This is the second year in a row that Venezuela has won the title.
Miss China, Wang Jingyao, was named Miss Congenialty, while Miss Thailand, Chutima Durongdej, won Miss Photogenic title.
The 2009 Miss Universe was held at the world famous, Atlantis Hotel on Paradise Island in the Bahamas and the event saw musical performances by, Flo Rida, Heidi Montag, David Guetta and Kelly Rowland.
The Pageant which took place on Sunday evening, was judged by a panel of 12, including actor Dean Cain and supermodel Valeria Mazza.
The hosts of the evening’s pageant were Billy Bush, co-anchor of “Access Hollywood” and Claudia Jordan, former Miss Rhode Island, U.S.A.
