Military to be Honored at Orlando City Soccer Game

The United States Army, Orlando City Soccer Club and the City of Orlando will honor all military, active and retired, at Orlando City’s home game on Wednesday, May 25th 2011 at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium.

U.S. military officers

The entire event, from the National Anthem to the end of the game is dedicated to honoring the military for their sacrifice and service to our country.

The highlight of the event will be The Future Soldiers’ Oath of Enlistment ceremony at halftime.  Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer will swear in more than 150 new recruits during the ceremony at approximately 8:15pm.

With the public swearing-in ceremony, the Army recruiting command is recognizing young soldiers from the greater Orlando area who have enlisted in the Army and will soon be leaving for basic and advanced military training.  Many of the enlistees will be graduating from high school at the end of the current school year and are joining at a time when the U.S. military is involved in active engagements around the world.  During their training, these soldiers will be trained not only in basic military skills, but also in career fields such as communications, medical specialties, and special forces operations.

Game time is 7:30pm at the Florida Citrus Bowl Stadium, 1610 West Church Street, Orlando, Florida.  Orlando City Soccer Club will take on The Richmond Kickers.

Two-for-one ticket specials are available for anyone with a valid military ID and new recruit family members. ROTC cadets, in uniform, gain free entry to the soccer game.

During the event, funds will be raised for the Wounded Warrior charity organization to honor those who have given their service to our country.

Orlando City Soccer Club is Central Florida’s newest professional sports organization, bringing pro soccer back to the City of Orlando for the first time in nearly 15 years.

Orlando City plays in USL PRO, the newly created top division of the United Soccer Leagues. In addition to the USL season, City will play several high-profile international exhibition games against teams from the United States and abroad – including two English Premier League teams: The Bolton Wanderers on July 17th and Newcastle United on July 23rd.
