Miami-Dade Mayor Backs Crist in Senate Bid

The Charlie Crist for United States Senate Campaign today announced the endorsement of Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez.

“I am pleased to support Governor Crist in his bid to represent the people of Florida in the United States Senate,” said Mayor Alvarez. “Governor Crist has demonstrated his commitment to conservative values that hold government accountable and keep more money in the pockets of hardworking Floridians. He is the common-sense conservative leader we need in Washington, and I am proud to lend my help to his campaign.”

Mayor Carlos Alvarez became Mayor of Miami-Dade County on November 16, 2004. After a restructuring of the Miami-Dade County government, passed by the voters on January 23, 2007, Alvarez now oversees the day-to-day operations of government which employs more than 30,000 employees and operates with a budget of close to $7 billion dollars. His focus includes Miami-Dade County’s two largest economic engines, Miami International Airport and the Port of Miami, which combined generate more than $365 billion dollars and 352,000 jobs.
