The World’s Most Powerful People, as selected by Forbes Magazine, has a Mexico drug trafficker on the list and that country’s authorities are crying foul.
Joaquin Guzman, leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, keeps company with U.S. President Barack Obama; Hu Jintao, President of the Peoples Republic of China; Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor; Hillary Clinton, US Secretary of State and 62 others named to the list.
Guzman is ranked 41st out of 67 of the World’s Most Powerful People.
The Mexico government says that naming a wanted drug trafficker like Guzman on the list of the World’s Most Powerful People makes a mockery of that government’s struggle against organized crime and goes counter to the international effort to defeat such criminals.
Since Mexico’s President Felipe Calderon launched a major offensive against organized crime, close to 14,000 persons have lost their lives in drug related violence.
