I Got Next – Karsceal Turner
Bethune-Cookman (12-17) jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game, getting early baskets but DSU quickly answered with a 6-0 run of its own to take the lead, which never got above four for the Hornets in the opening half. After short-lived runs by B-CU, the Lady Hornets regained the lead heading into the locker room. B-CU tried to fight back and even took the lead to open the second half.
In the end it just wasn’t enough as the Lady Cats succumbed 55-44 to Delaware State for the second time this season. Unfortunately this tourney loss ends the season for the ladies of Maroon and Gold hoops.
As we look forward to next season, these returnees ended this season on a strong note. Your girl Sharnese Neal dropped a dozen and four boards followed by Shakeyia Colyer’s nine, and Terrenisha Hollis chipped in eight.
For Delaware State, Tierra Hawkins led all scorers with 16, finishing a double-double effort with 12 rebounds.
Boys and girls once again, the ladies set the tone. This time in the MEAC Tournament held at the Scope Arena in Norfolk, VA. Moving right along to the loss which sent the CageCats packing in the following run-down, stay tuned.
Morgan State Bears Maul CageCats 82-71 in MEAC semifinal showdown
Bethune-Cookman’s third consecutive appearance trip in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference semifinals ended just like its first – with a loss to Morgan State.
The Wildcats conclude the season 14-20 with the loss to a Morgan State squad they haven’t played since 2011 semifinal. It just happened to be the same team to beat them in 2013 give or take a few players.
Bloody Hell, the season is concluded, we bid farewell to the seniors and look toward the future. Nice job Coach Craig.
The fifth-seeded Bears built an early lead and repelled several rallies by the eighth-seeded Wildcats to earn an 82-71 win over the Wildcats Friday in semifinal action.
The Wildcats eliminated top-seeded Norfolk State 70-68 on Wednesday, were led by senior guard Kevin Dukes with 20 points on 7-of- 14 shooting from the field, including a 5 of 9 effort from beyond the arc.
Ricky Johnson, a sophomore guard, dropped 18 points and was a perfect 9 for 9 from the free throw line. Bethune-Cookman’s All-MEAC forward Adrien Coleman was limited to eight points on 4 of 11 shooting.
That’s it boys and girls. No NIT tournament invitation, no trip to the big dance, pack it up until next October and begin working on your NCAA brackets for March Madness 2013. I’m moving on to other things besides the sports arena because whatever the topic, I still got next! Stay tuned for my insight into the Masonic Lodge…spooky.
