Colon cancer is the second most deadliest cancer, yet if caught early it can have a 90% cure rate. And so, to drive home that statistic and recognize March as Colon Cancer Awareness month, MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando displayed a giant inflatable replica of a human colon on Wednesday.
The Giant Inflatable Colon allowed visitors to get a close-up view of healthy colon tissue, various stages of colorectal cancer and signs of non-malignant colorectal diseases like Crohn’s and colitis. Visitors were able to walk through the 30-foot long, 10-foot high replica of the human colon and learn more about colon cancer.
Doctors and other medical staff were also on hand for much of the morning, to help the public digest information about colon cancer. Visitors received information about colon cancer screening, prevention tips, risk factors and cancer prevention through nutrition.
The Giant Inflatable Colon will remain in place at MD Anderson Cancer Center Orlando, 1400 S. Orange Avenue, Orlando, until 4:00 p.m. today. The event is free and open to the public.
