McCollum Public Service Announcement Suspect

Florida’s Attorney General and Gubernatorial candidate Bill McCollum last Friday, pulled a $2 million Public Service Announcement off the air and many are crying foul. McCollum announced his campaign for Governor two days later.

McCollum, as Attorney General, has placed much emphasis on keeping Florida kids safe from online predators.  So zealous is McCollum on this issue that, he awarded a $2.5 million to his former political consultant to produce and air ads on cybercrimes.

The political consultant never had to bid on the project and McCollum is prominently featured in the tv spots.

The PSA began running in several parts of the state last October.  It was stopped last Friday, two days before McCollum made his announcement that he would run for governor.

His Democratic Opponent, Alex Sink says that the timing of the PSA is, “interesting”.

A spokeswoman for the Attorney General’s Office says the PSA has nothing to do with McCollum’s political aspirations.

The Florida Democrats spokesman, Eric Jottkoff says the PSA looks very much like a campaign ad.
