WHAT:
Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, District 6 City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings and Police Chief Val Demings will join with hundreds of families and residents at the MetroWest Master Association for the 27th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 3, 2010. The event will also include an announcement about a new public-private partnership aimed at increasing public safety in the MetroWest Master Association neighborhood.
National Night Out (NNO) is an annual crime awareness and prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and the Orlando Police Department (OPD) on the second Tuesday of every August. NNO 2009 involved more than 36 million people in 14,625 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. National Night Out 2010 is expected to be the largest ever.
Last year, Orlando came in third place nationally for the number of neighborhood groups and residents participating in the event. This year on Tuesday, August 3, Neighborhood Watch groups around the City will hold rallies within their neighborhoods to increase program awareness. To date, more than 10,000 Orlando citizens are already registered for NNO 2010 including neighborhoods, churches and apartment complexes.
