Rumors have been swirling around that Maya Angelo, world renowned Pulitzer Prize winning author and poet is ill or had died, following a report on TMZ.
But Angelou says that she is alive and well. In fact, she is actually near St. Louis today at Southern Illinois University for an event called, “An Afternoon with May Angelou”, her agent said.
Her agent started receiving calls about a report that she is ill or had died while on her tour bus en route to the event.
Angelou, who is 81, said that the calls came as far as Europe and Africa and she was quite disturbed that she was receiving calls about her death.
Angelo who gained worldwide fame with her literary activism in the civil rights movement is most famous for her works like, “I know why the caged bird sings”, an autobiographical account of her childhood and early teenage years.
