The Marco Island Seafood Festival is joining with Waste Management, Inc. of Florida in a ZERO Waste Challenge at the 5th annual festival on March 23-23, 2013.
“As the festival has grown, we’ve sought new ways to serve our community. Each of our partners is dedicated to protecting the environment and we are so grateful for the support of Waste Management in making the Marco Island Seafood Festival a green event,” said Stan Niemczyk, Marco Island Seafood Festival Chair.
Before the gate opens, Waste Management representatives will be onsite with event organizers to educate vendors on what is recyclable in Collier County. Commercial recycling containers will be onsite for food and craft vendors.
Waste Management will also be placing newly designed recycling stations at key locations throughout Veterans’ park to provide easy access for attendees. The firm is also inviting attendees to take part in the ZERO Waste Challenge by emailing picture of themselves recycling along with contact information to [email protected]. One lucky winner will take home a “Think Green Give-away Prize” from Waste Management.
“To our company, Thinking Green means looking for new ways to provide the right environmental solutions for our clients and the communities we live in. With so many outdoor events like the Marco Island Seafood Festival, we felt like this was the perfect opportunity to divert recyclables out of the waste stream and out of our landfill,” said Larry Berg, Sr. District Manager, Waste Management.
The 5th Annual Marco Island Seafood Festival will be held on Saturday March 23rd and Sunday, March 24th at Veterans’ Park on Marco Island. Admission is $6.00 with Children under 12 free.
The Marco Island Seafood Festival is coordinated by Marco Island Rotary Sunrise and Noontime Clubs, the Kiwanis Club of Marco Island, Fresh from Florida Gulf Seafood, and the event’s title sponsor Waste Management, Inc. of Florida. Proceeds from the festival benefit local and international humanitarian programs sponsored by the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs.
