Tens of thousands marched in the wintry Danish capital, Copenhagen, on Saturday, calling for action on climate change.
The single largest demonstration since the start of the international conference on climate change, the demonstrators, who were mostly peaceful, made their way to the Bella Center where the UN Climate Change Conference is in its sixth day.
The 60,000 marchers who point to the ill effects arising from climate change, called on governments to show “a global will for urgent and effective action on climate change at this time”.
Police also detained over 900 activists as a precautionary measure, although most were released by Sunday.
Meanwhile, conference participants continue to hammer out an agreement which would be acceptable to both rich and poor countries. But perhaps time is not on their side.
One scientist connected to the UN said that, the reductions in greenhouse gas emissions being offered by conference goers is “clearly not enough” to inspire confidence worldwide that, global warming would be tackled.
