On Thursday, Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) announced that popular musician Michel “Sweet Micky” Martelly will face off against the front-runner, former first lady Mirlande Manigat, 70, in the runoff elections on March 20.
While no explanation was offered, Jude Celestin is out. It is a decision sure to please the Organization of American States, who had made this recommendation, but antagonize some Haitian and international policy and legal group0s and human rights organizations.
