A man who robbed the same Wells Fargo Bank twice, but only five weeks apart, was arrested on Thursday, police said.
Police said, 55-year-old Aldofis Gibbs robbed the Wells Fargo Bank on Avenue A downtown Winter Haven on September 6 and again, on October 12. On both occasions, Gibbs entered the bank, presented a note to the teller and demanded money. A weapon and not evident and Gibbs fled the bank on foot.
Gibbs was arrested at his home today, after a DNA match linked him to evidence from the robbery of the Wells Fargo Bank at Avenue A, on September 6. Police said, DNA was obtained form clothing he discarded in a dumpster following the September 6th robbery. The clothing was found a block away from the bank and matched the description of what witnesses gave and what was observed on video surveillance.
Today, investigators recovered clothing, a note and other evidence linking Gibbs to the robbery yesterday.
Gibbs confessed to both robberies as he was being interviewed by police. He was transported to the Polk County Jail and charged with one count of armed robbery and one count of robbery.
Police said, Gibbs has a criminal history which includes charges of cocaine possession with intent to sell, a scheme to defraud, grand theft and probation violations.
