An Orlando man was arrested and charged with armed robbery of a Mears taxi cab driver, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies said.
Darrious Clay, 27, of Orlando, was arrested early on Friday and booked into the Orange County Jail. He has been charged with robbery with a firearm.
Investigators said the cab driver picked up a passenger, who later turned out to be the suspect, at Universal Studios during the day, on Thursday, January 13. The passenger asked to be taken to the intersection of Americana and OBT. On route to the location, the suspect pulled out a pistol and demanded all the cab driver’s money. The cab driver complied and the suspect exited the vehicle, fleeing on foot in an unknown direction.
Deputies said the Mears cab driver, who has not been identified, was not injured during the armed robbery.
Earlier this week, a Mears cab driver was gunned down on January 12, in the Governor Manor Parking Lot on L B McLeod Road. Orlando Police would not confirm whether Clay is the shooter in the murder of the Mears cab driver that killed Nelvil Joseph, 43, of Orlando.
Mears Transportation has offered a reward of $10,000 leading to the arrest and apprehension of Joseph’s killer.
The investigation is on going.
