Man who opened fire on SWAT team charged with 10 counts of attempted murder

SWATTfinalA man living in Marion County will face several counts of attempted murder for opening fire on law enforcement officers on Sunday.

Dustin Heathman, 35, has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder on a LEO, after investigators say he fired an automatic weapon hitting a police vehicle at least eight times.

Investigators went to a home where Heathman was living in the 17000 block N.W. 162 Terrace, Williston in Marion County on Sunday.  A family member told deputies that there were warrants out for Heathman’s arrest, he was violent and that he had numerous weapons inside the residents.  A stolen vehicle was also parked in the yard of the residence.

Deputies say, the incident took a turn for the worse when a woman came out of the home. Heathman refused to do so, even as he made numerous threats and lengthy negotiations failed.

Authorities say, SWAT then approached the home in an armored vehicle and Heathman opened fire hitting a police car at least eight times. He also fired at least four rounds at SWAT members who were outside the vehicle, authorities also say.

Law enforcement officers exchanged gunfire with Heathman, who was injured by glass fragments.

Heathman was arrested after he gave himself up.  He was booked into the Marion County Jail.

Investigators have identified the woman as Jennifer Brown.  She has been charged with stealing a vehicle.

  1. Sorry guys, but MCSO lied to you about what really happened.

Dustin is innocent. He never threatened anyone and he certainly never tried to kill anyone. They were the aggressors, and it was DUSTIN who tried to resolve the situation peacefully.
