Man who Carjacked Driver to get Pregnant Girlfriend to Hospital, Arrested

A Deltona man, who carjacked a driver on Sunday so he could take his pregnant girlfriend to the hospital, faces charges of armed carjacking and fleeing deputies.

31-year-old Robert Bourdreaux was taken into custody after deputies say, he carjacked a 20-year-old driver on North Normandy Boulevard, to get his pregnant girlfriend to Florida Hospital Fish Memorial on Saxon Boulevard in Orange City.

According to Volusia County deputies, Bourdreaux and his girlfriend walked passed a fire station and didn’t think to seek help nor use two working cell phones he had with him. Instead, deputies say, he forced a passing car to stop, threatened to shoot the driver if he didn’t run a red light and finally forced the driver out and sped away.

Deputies found the carjacker, Boudreaux, driving erratically and refusing to stop for the deputies. Deputies finally cornered Boudreaux in a parking lot and arrested him. His girlfriend was then taken to a hospital for examination. No one was injured during the incident.

According to the 22-year-old girlfriend, her car ran out of gas in DeLand, but a friend picked them up and dropped them off in Deltona. The couple then walked several miles, but the woman started to feel dehydrated and said she was bleeding. They walked past a fire station on Howland Boulevard, but didn’t stop to ask for help. As it got close to noon, Boudreaux tried a few times to get cars to stop on North Normandy Boulevard without success.

He then picked up his girlfriend and walked into the path of a car, forcing it to stop. Boudreaux demanded that the 20-year-old driver take them to a hospital, but he initially refused until Boudreaux got angry and threatened to shoot the driver. The couple then got in and the driver went to the intersection of North Normandy Boulevard and Elkcam Boulevard where he stopped for a red light. Boudreaux again got angry and ordered the driver to run the light. The driver refused and Boudreaux grabbed the driver’s seat belt, using it to force him back against the seat while Boudreaux yelled that he would shoot the driver if he didn’t get out. The driver got out and Boudreaux sped away. The victim told responding deputies that he never actually saw Boudreaux with a gun.

The driver called 911 and responding deputies quickly found the stolen vehicle. Boudreaux used a turning lane to pass vehicles and erratically shifted lanes while refusing to stop for deputies. He pulled into the parking lot of Florida Hospital Fish Memorial, 1055 Saxon Blvd., Orange City, but continued to evade deputies until the car was finally blocked in by patrol cars. Boudreaux was taken into custody and deputies found two working cell phones on him. His girlfriend told deputies that she had tried to get Boudreaux to stop for them. It was determined that she wasn’t involved in the carjacking and she does not face any charges. Deputies escorted her to the hospital’s emergency room.

Boudreaux faces charges of armed carjacking, fleeing or eluding and driving with a suspended license. He was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach.
