Florida Highway Patrol said that a man was killed after he was struck by a car while attempting to cross the road at Orange Blossom Trail near Shepard Avenue, late Wednesday night. The man was not using a cross walk.
Troopers said a Toyota Corolla driven by Lesbia Mettei Perez, 26, of Apopka, was traveling westbound on OBT in the left through lane, west of Shepard Avenue, around 11:15 pm. A male pedestrian, standing on the northern sidewalk of US 441 attempted to cross the road by traveling southbound. The front of Perez’s vehicle struck the pedestrian, who died on the spot.
The pedestrian, 46 years, was not using a cross walk as he crossed the road.
Perez suffered no injuries. The presence of alcohol was not found to be a factor. However, it is not known if alcohol played a role in relation to the deceased, as results are pending.
Troopers have not released the name of the man who was killed, pending notification of next of kin.
The accident remains under investigation.
