Man Shot Dead Walking Downtown Orlando

A man walking downtown Orlando on Monday night was shot dead following a verbal altercation with passengers in a car driving by, Orlando police said.

The deceased has been identified as Alex Mazzan, 20.

Police say, Mazzan was walking with another man around 8:00 p.m. in the area of Lucerne Terrace near the intersection of Sturtevant Street.  Some type of verbal altercation occurred with passengers in a white Nissan driving by, shots were fired and Mazzan was hit.

The other man walking with Mazzan who has not been named and who wasn’t hurt, attempted to provide assistance by pulling him into the road way and flagging down an Orange County Corrections van driving by.

Mazzan was transported to the Orlando Regional Medical Center Emergency Room where he was later pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives are continue to interview witnesses in the area and still gathering evidence.  It is not clear how many shots were fired or the location of any rounds.

Witnesses described the suspects in the car as 3 or 4 black males, although descriptions vary, police said.

Lucerne Terrace between Sturtevant and Copeland was closed for several hours as crime scene detectives worked the homicide.
