Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Two Pounds of Pot

A man in New Orleans was sentenced to life imprisonment by a judge, after his probation officer found two pounds of marijuana in his home.

Cornell Hood II, will spend the rest of his life in prison, after he was convicted for a fourth time of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute, reports nola.com.

Hood’s probation officer made a routine visit on September 27, 2010, and discovered nearly two pounds of marijuana in his house.

At Hood’s one-day trial, prosecutors presented evidence that included a digital scale and about half-a-dozen bags with pot that was seized from Hood’s house.

Jurors who deliberated for less than two hours, found Hood guilty of one count of possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

A judge used Hood’s past three convictions last Thursday to argue that he was a career criminal and deserved the maximum punishment–life in prison.
