The office of Orange-Osceola State Attorney Andrew Bain recently announced Dean Kornblum was sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing a man in a car accident where he was speeding.
In September, Kornblum pled guilty to the October 2019 crash. Kornblum was 22 years old at the time of the fatal crash on University Boulevard near Bibb Road in Orange County near UCF in Orlando.
He was driving at a recorded speed of 142 miles per hour which was a contributing factor in him crashing into the rear of a Nissan Rogue driven by Gabriel Dominguez. Dominguez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Moments after the accident Kornblum’s blood alcohol content level was at .189, over twice the legal limit of .08. At sentencing, he admitted to being under the influence of Xanax during the crash. Witnesses to the crash also described Kornblum’s car as sounding like a rave party because the music was so loud.
Dominguez’s family members were present at the sentencing hearing and gave impact statements. The victim was a father of two girls who were 7 years old and 7 months old at the time of the crash.
The judge considered many factors surrounding the crash, including the speed and disturbing statements Kornblum made when he was taken to the hospital.
Ultimately, the judge adjudicated him guilty on both counts as charged, DUI Manslaughter and Vehicular Homicide. Kornblum was sentenced to 14 years in the Department of Corrections followed by one year of community control and 10 years of probation.
